Round the world trip

My husband and I are planning to take a year off from our jobs and take a round the world trip.

I did a similar trip, i´d definately consider New Zealand, and in South america i´d definatley go to Bolivia so much to do there and so cheap!!

Hi Psammead,
I lived in Australia for a year while I was working in Sydney. My two cents would be doing the Indian Pacific railway to the west coast. If you enjoy really getting a feel for a country this is a good way to do it. You stop at several points along the way and can see various spots. And you can spend a day or so in a spot if you want and catch the train the next day. I went in my twenties and did it cheap at the time. So I would recommend spending money for the nicer seats so you don't have to sleep sitting up which is what I did. But if you can spend money and make it more comfortable it is a really good way to get a feel for the country and just sit back and look out the window.

Also, the west coast of Australia is really gorgeous. If you head north from Perth and go to the Pinnacles Desert - this is one of the most beautiful places I have ever experienced. Aside from these rocks (which weren't why I found it so spectacular) there were beautiful sand dunes and grass and the ocean and we drove through at dusk and dawn (which you aren't supposed to with a rental) and saw so many kangaroos jumping around the grass and dunes. I have never seen anything so magnificent in my life. And you will see kangaroos trust me. That is why you aren't supposed to drive at dawn and dusk because they are everywhere. Just be very careful you don't hit any. We drove very slowly (5-10mph) and when it wasn't dark yet so we could see them.

I hope this is helpful.
Laura
