What is your Top Ten Christmas Destination?

Hi,

Allthough this year I have a wedding in Brazil the day before Christmas and so I'll be away from home, I don't like it to be somewhere else than home/with family during Christmas.
Too crowded, too expensive etc. etc.

If I had to choose, I would spend it somewhere where Christmas is not an official holiday. Otherwise somewhere with snow-sure conditions. Lastly: a deserted island for me and my girl With palmtrees, no Christmas trees.

This year it will be Melbourne, Australia! Hoping to try out Hong Kong Disneyland the week after though

I would like to go away for christmas but in all serious my mum would kill me, its a family thing so its home with most of the family or all the family abroad which i think would be a disaster for the place we go to, lol.

Would like to try Austrailia, see my cousin who is living over there

Austria Tyrol (no other region)
Norway
Bulgaria (the ski resorts - cheapest in the world)
Romania (the ski resorts - 2nd cheapest in the world)
Scotland
That's all the cold bits. Then..
Southern Morocco
Any of the Canaries
Egypt
Mexico (very hot ! !)
Southern Spain.
The Southern Spain option is great. Laying on the beach in Marbella in around 25c. of lovely crispy warm sunshine on Christmas day - and just 2 hours drive away, skiing in Sierra Nevada.

I'd like to go back and do christmas and new years in sydney. Maybe go out to manly or bondi.

I've never done christmas outside of Philly and I've never spent new years outside of Philly or New York.

Christmas might be weird though because I'm not really close with anybody there anymore. But new years can be good anywhere kind of like the night before thanksgiving.

Of the places you mentioned then I would say Denmark. Xmas has to be cold.

I'll give you my top ONE. Any place where there is no Christmas. In Santiago, last year, I spent Christmas. They had Santa Claus and icicles and fake snow and snowmen. If you grok it, Santiago is on the south side of the equator and they have NEVER KNOWN a time when there was snow and icicles and Guys in red fur suits for Christmas. I've seen the same in Belize, in Costa Rica, in Colombia. Christmas is a commercial swirl of consumerism and cheesy fake American imagery masquerading as a holiday.

Right. I find Toronto to be a great place for Christmas. Many shop windows have animatronic displays. They have a great parade and the city is suitably cold and snowy, for the most part. You can skate in front of City Hall, and people are generally friendly for this season. Chestnuts are, indeed, roasting over open fires there, on every second street corner. Yep, I like Toronto for the joyous season of Yule.

isn't some one going to mention New York? talk about magic. that is if you can get past all the endless nonsense of Christmas, the city is wow.

ice

Depends what you want of course but this year I spent it in Cape Town and it tops my list. I left Manchester in the snow and landed in 30 degree heat, cheap beer and food, fantastic hostels and a great backpacker scene. Lots of fun plus an interesting place with all the historic events that have happened there.
