What size backpack should I take.

As I am leaving to travel for 12 months I am now looking at getting my backpack sorted out.

Oh dear... me being lazy again

just saw the travel gear forum so I think I better have a read there first

I am going for a 50 +10.. Fingers crossed its big enoguh

I like to carry on - 35 or 40 max

It's what you can handle, rather than what's the best.
Check out Wynnster (cheap and excellent quality), rather than Karrimore - which is rather more name than good quality.

I took at 60 + 15 and i struggled to zip it up every day ha x

Go in for a big backpack which having wheels underneath. This way whenever it is possible, you can simply drag it along and can give your back some rest.

As flyingbob says, it's a case of how much you are comfortable carrying. As I'm only 5ft 1" I found that I struggled with 55L so now I try to travel with 40L if I can; that's easy enough if you are only going to warmer destinations where you need thinner clothes but might be harder for you if you're going for 12 months and probably experiencing different climates.

Hi, I'm off to New Zealand in December, and my backpack is 55L. But I read somewhere that once you have packed, walk around the block, then see what you can remove. The more space you have the more things you will want to put in.

I took a warm jacket to Australia and wore it about 3 times, it was a few days before summer. Had to cart it around everywhere with me Also, in Australia you really don't need a sleeping bag, most hostels don't let you use them because of bed bugs.

Cheers for your advice peeps :-)

Bag arrived today and really happy with it. It was 55 +15, fits me perfectly.

Going to pack some stuff in it and go for a trail run or should I say walk ha ah
