Australia! Perth to Sydney - Best way?

Hi there,

I don't know about buses, but if there are any it would be my last pick.

The first one would be renting a car. 2 weeks is not that much time, but basically it's enough to get a good feeling about distances and plenty of time to visit things along the way.

Second would be the train and last one would be flying. Now if you would have like months in Oz I would recommend flying to Sydney and spend some time in Sydney and surroudings, but as it's the opportunity to see something else than the big cities, really go for the rental car. It's not cheap, but I think you might be able to rent a car for about 30-35 US dollar a day, so about 400-500 dollar. Now flying or the train won't be a hell of a lot cheaper, although you won't have to pay for extra petrol and stuff.

Some things to see on your way: Wave Rock, Nullarbor, Kangaroo Island maybe, Barossa wine valley, Grampians and the mountains in between Melbourne and Sydney.

Just my 2 cents
Mike

Thanks for taking the time to reply Mike.. I will start googling your suggestions!

I'd spend 2 weeks exploring around Perth then fly to Sydney and then spend 2 weeks exploring around Sydney, Jan-Feb is summer so travelling across the Nullarbor is going to be hot, hopefully your rental would have air conditioning but you'll have to pay high prices for fuel and extra kilometres.

For the two weeks in Perth you could visit Rottnest Island, then drive around the south coast and visit Margaret River, Bunbury, Esperence then back to Perth. I've got some pics of the area around Perth in my gallery if you want to have a look.

Around Sydney you could explore the city, visit the Blue Mountains and either have a look up the north or south coast.
