Hi,
We are a couple backpacking through SE Asia from midlle of August to middle of December this year. Are only set points so far are that we start in Singapore then fly from Thailand to Hongkong the end of October then fly out of Beijing to the UK in December.
We are looking for any advice on places to go or any routes to take as we have no idea yet.
Or any other travel advice e.g. transport, safety, good cheap accommodation, etc.
Look forward to any replies.
My favourite islands in Thailand are Koh Pha Ngan and Koh Phi Phi but it depends what you're after. But if you like beaches and nightlife then Koh Pha Ngan and Koh Phi Phi are excellent. Chiang Mai is worth visiting as well where you can do trekking. I did a three day two night trek which included a visit to a couple of villages and also bamboo rafting. Kanchanaburi on the Thai border with Burma is an interesting place for a day or two as well (Death Railway, Bridge Over The River Kwai, Jeath Museum).
I also totally love Borneo as well, but that's maybe a bit out of the way of your general route. You can get really cheap flights to Borneo on AirAsia though, so it's still worth looking into. There's loads of cool places t visit such as Mount Kinabalu, Turtle Island, Semenggoh (orangutans), hit springs, cultural villages. So overall Borneo works well with a trip to the southern islands of Thailand cos you can relax and chill out on the beaches of Southern Thailand, and then fit in a load of cool activities when you're in Borneo to balance it out.
