Fiji but not in couples!

Hey guys,

I went to Fiji in May with two friends and had the most amazing time. Easily my favourite part of my travels. We went to three of the Yasawa's, in reverse order from my least favourite to my favourite:

Octopus Resort on Waya - this sounded really nice in all the guides we read, but we hated it. Was large, commercial, the staff didn't seem to be having fun, and was totally unlike a Fijian resort. We couldn't wait to get away.

Oarsmans Lodge on Nacula - a bit shabby, but generally pretty nice and amazing beach

Botaira Beach Resort on Naviti - this place was fanastic! Great staff, great accommodation, great food, incredible sunsets, incredible night skies, great beach, really social, typically Fijian - would go back in a shot!

Hope this helps!

Thanks for this! How long were you there for? Is it cheap / expensive there? Can't wait now!

We were on the Yasawas for 14 days and on the mainland for a further three.

To give you an idea of costs, at Octopus we were paying 115 Fijian dollars to stay in a dorm and for three meals a day. At Botaira it was 105 dollars a night for the same thing (but we also got afternoon tea as well!)

There are around 3 Fiji dollars to 1 British pound, so we were paying around 35 to 37 pounds for accommodation and food (and generally the food was really good and substantial). On top of that you have to pay for your own drinks, and a Fiji beer was about 5/6 Fiji dollars.

Not sure if prices will be higher over Christmas, but I am very jealous! It is as close to paradise as I have ever experienced.

Wow sounds pretty nice and good value! I will avoid the Octopus Resort though from what you're saying! Hoping to go do some diving etc too. Thanks so much for your help.

The diving and snorkelling around all the Yasawa's is pretty awesome and if you get a chance to visit a local village and school then do so.

Have a great time!

I did a tour with which was really good. I spent a few days on the Yasawa islands and they are stunning.

Like Steve says, it's worthwhile visiting a school and village if you get the chance.
