My luggage is too heavy!

Hi all,

I don't know if you plan to travel or to move to Spain, but hey, Spain isn't a third world country!
Leave some of your stuff at home, and if you need something, buy it there (and support the struggling Spanish economy ...

Only travelling! But haha, yes, if it's going to cost a bomb then that actually might be a good alternative! :P

I was at Gatwick airport a couple of days a go dropping somebody off. There was some time to kill so I went inside to wait with them a while. I just couldn't believe the size of the bags some other people were taking! I had no idea they even made them that big! But it's their holiday, so their business I suppose. But posting it? For a 4 week holiday? Well, that's just insane.

I think I'm just used to smaller budget airports out of the main holiday season.

I saw the results of a recent survey on some travel website, that said over 60% of luggage taken on holiday, never gets used.
Unless I'm on a flight that allows a freebie bag in the hold - I never take more than hand baggage anymore. Haven't done now for years.

We have just been travelling for a month, and despite being fairly economic on what we took anyway, we lost a selection of our clothes (the hostel mixed up our stuff in the laundry ) which we didn't replace. This shows we probably could have been even more economic with our luggage anyway.

In the end it really was OK, because it freed up more space for further purchases.

Just plan what you think you'll need, then halve it!!

Depends on the nature of the journey I suppose - staying in one place, moving along every few days, business/pleasure? Personally, and in my very limited experience, I found that the extra freedom I had by not being anchored to stuff more than made up for any natural feelings of insecurity. It will always be a work in progress though. I've learnt that much at least.

I spent a month in Italy/Greece with just a carry-on sized travel bag. Washed my clothes a couple of times and was fine. In the summer, it's very easy to pack a small amount of clothes.

I agree with Yvekes. A couple of weeks from now is still gonna be hot in Spain and its serious hot in Madrid if ever you are thinking of Madrid. So it means that there's about plain clothes you can stuff in your luggage, unlike the way we are stuffing during winter.

I personally want to have something to remember from the visited country like a tee perhaps that removes the boundary of your tourist image.

for Spain you dont need a huge amount of stuff as even the basic place should offers a washer and dryer if you need clean clothes.
have you tried traveling alternatives like travel towls you can get?
