Help/over stayed visa/need to know what happens in airport

Deadfruma has indicated that this thread is about Greece

1. It's most likely that you will be checked, caught and fined (if not detained) upon leaving Greece. They will issue you a document that you can show to the German/Swiss authorities upon leaving Schengen, so that you won't be fined again.

Alternatively, the Greek authorities may decide to deport you to USA on a direct flight at your own expense; I believe there are some (Continental used to do AIA- EWR). They have every right to.

2. You will be banned from Europe anyway, whether you pay the fine or no. Overstaying is considered a serious offense, and Greece, being an outside border of the Schengen area, is particularly harsh. You will be registered in SIS, and will have to apply for a visa in the future, which may be refused.

3. Subject to national differences, I believe. I also believe the Greek authorities may decide you detain you if you can't pay on the spot. Not sure about that one, though.

4. Get the funds SOON. The longer you overstay, the less likely it is you get out without too much hassle.

5. Never is a long time. Probably not any time soon, though.

6. You might. See 1 and 3.

Mind you, all of the above depends on how long you overstayed.

you will not go to jail.

Likely fined for sure and a 5 year ban I think on Europe. And a VERY slim chance of ever getting a work/student visa in Europe.

Promoting illegal activities such as intentionelly overstaying visa is against the Terms&Conditions you agreed to when you signed up.

Good luck to you!

Fingers crossed for you!

Please post back, and let us know what happens?

We might all learn from this. :-s
