Poutine is a Quebec specialty that can be had from most burger and fries restaurants.
Nightlife hotspots are on and around Crescent St. or on and around Saint Denis St. or walking along Ste Catherine streets between Guy to St Laurent..

I don't know where you're from, where you're staying, but...
jambo101 has listed some great spots; I prefer Schwartz (www.schwartzsdeli.com on St. Laurent Street, north of Sherbrooke) over Dunn's. How about Nickel's, Céline Dion's restaurant chain (www.nickelsrestaurants.com). The underground city will take you a day, possibly more - while there think of your visit as happening in winter; try a subway on rubber wheels. Real bagels are available on Granville Island, almost exclusively in BC. Once you've had St Viateur bagels (www.stviateurbagel.com) near Outremont Metro, or those at Faubourg Ste Catherine a few years ago anyway, where they make them, serve them hot, you'll never ever buy the round bread with a hole you've probably had everywhere else in the country.
A gastronomic "low-rent" experience unique to Québec: Lafleur - they're everywhere, cheap cheap.

Chinatown, St. Laurent south of René Lévesque
Old Montréal & Old Port (may recognize some locations from the movie "Whole Nine Yards") , Place d'Armes (a Metro station) - the financial capital of Canada prior to October 1970 - good for a few days - also not far from St. Laurent.
Expensive but fantastic meals at www.gibbys.com (greatest onion soup in the country - they host courtyard plays at times) & Les Filles du Roy (www.pierreducalvet.ca), both in 350+ year old locations; maybe try for something light/inexpensive, walk around the premises - they don't mind.
How about a subway ride to the old Expo 67 site - can easily spend a day there.
Speak French? Nightlife on St Denis is mostly French (east) while Crescent & de La Montagne are mostly English (west).
Like beer? Try La Maudite - 11% alcohol (sometimes available in BC).
Rent a car for a day? www.EnterpriseRentACar.ca has great deals & they'll pick you up. Montréal is an island... If you don't take a bridge you can't really get lost. St Anne de Bellevue, lunch & a stroll by the locks.
Pizza? Sure! Montréal pizza is better than anywhere I've lived in the country (I've lived in Montréal, Toronto - there is/was 3 Brothers in Streetsville though, Edmonton, Vancouver) My favourite is Toto's in Lachine, about halfway between Montréal & Ste Anne de Bellevue.
After a week you may be surcharged by the airline...
Feeling adventurous? Take a luxury coach day-trip to Québec City (www.comforttravel.ca). Actually a Montréal city tour (www.montrealtours.net) is a great way to be introduced to various areas & see some of the unique Montréal residential architecture.
