That looks liek a good plan! I wouldnt spend so much time in Adelaide though I went there for 3 days and it was waaaaay too long! IMO there wasnt much to do there. Why not swap a couple of days in Adelaide for a trip to the Whit Sundays or you can take a boat out to to the Coral Reef for a day or so from Cairns.
I think if it was my first time to Oz, I would spend 3 days each in Syd and Melb, then if you can go along the great ocean road to adelaide, only spend a day or so in Adelaide (as there isn't much to see/do) and then go to Kangaroo Island for a few days if you can, its beautiful there!! I think a day trip is fine for Barossa Valley, or 1 overnight. Yes a couple of nights in Alice Springs is sufficient and then once you are in Cairns you can go up to Port Douglas, tour around Cairns and definately get out on the Great Barrier Reef and the Whitsunday islands.
