Yes - I've been to Russia and for me the best hotels are the ones on the edge of the cities, not in the centres.
So many people say how expensive Moscow is. That should be re-phrased as - how expensive Moscow 'Can' be. I have done it on a very low budget. The secret is to do your homework before you leave and not look for a room when you get there, although it is possible to get from Moscow Central Station to a few 1* hotels for a small taxi fare and the room is only around €30 a night.
