IS NECCESARY TO RENT A CAR TO GO TO MIAMI AND ORLANDO

Hello, I am going to travel alone to miami and Orlando, somebody could tell me if in fact it is neccesary to rent a car to visit and be there 15 days or if a coukd use bus or metro, I am going to stay there in a hostel so I don´t Know it they have transport, thank´s.

Here is a for Miami-Orlando. Many times per day to choose from. You might want to rent a car once in Orlando. Good luck with your planning.

I say you do. Once in the Miami area, you should go down to Key West as long as you're so close, and Orlando is very spread out. You'd be wasting precious time waiting for a slow bus. are quite cheap in Florida.

I pulled up the , called LYNK. They advertise a weekly bus pass for $10. The cheapest car I could find in Orlando will be about $25/day. Your choice.

I have family down near Miami. I stopped renting cars whenever I go because public transportation is pretty good.

I take the train from the Palm Beach area to Miami, and vice versa, and it was pretty cheap. The trains go all over Florida. Plus, if you're going to find parking anywhere close to South Beach in Miami, it's a nightmare, and if you use a parking garage/lot, it's expensive. There are always people 'cruising' up and down the strip, that causes a lot of slow traffic.

Any gaps from train stations to your final destinations can be filled by buses and cabs.

To be devils advocate, the only downside (IMO) to NOT having your own car, is the timing of your arrival flight. You would'nt want to be landing late at night, then trying to ride unfamiliar, and infrequent late night public transportation. Not to mention the safety aspects. Only a few blocks away from South Beach, Miami is a pretty low income neighborhood, which tends to bring crime.

Also, I believe (not sure on this one), that if you're interested in going to the theme parks like Disney World, etc...you have to pay a pretty expensive parking fee. On top of the already, recently increased, price of park admission. It's close to $90 USD now, I believe.

Though, as Daawgon said, if you're planning on seeing MORE than just Miami (Key West), and Orlando (theme parks, and smaller surrounding parks), then I would get a car. Nobody wants to spend two weeks riding public transportation non-stop.

A private mode of transportation is always nice...but to me, it gets expensive in the end, but you get to see more on your own time.

With public transportation, just give yourself a little extra time to get from point A to point B.

It all probably boils down to the type of traveller you are. Will you go to Miami, and just chill out, and relax? Maybe walk around a bit? Then don't get a car.

If you're going to Key West as well, and exploring other areas around Miami, etc...then doing the same in Orlando, I'd say get a car.

Haha, Sorry if that was a bit long. I just wanted to list for you the pros and cons of each!

Happy travels, and have fun! It sounds like a nice trip!
