Question for all Americans who travel with smart phones: any advice for handling astronomical data charges when traveling internationally? I have had access to amazing travel app tools for a couple of years now, but have been afraid to avail myself of their use outside the USA, not to mention twitter and facebook. To my knowledge, no American cell phone service provider has a decent international plan. I'm interested in hearing what you guys do.
I'm like you and tend to switch off data when travelling The same holds true for just travelling across the border to Sweden for me for example! My only 'tactic' is to always try and find hotels with free wifi so I can at least hook up once or twice a day. There tend to also be a few hot spots around the bigger cities...
I'm with Verizon, I'm not sure about data charges, but I do know they charge a premium for calls but nothing at all for texting. The idea about hooking up to wi-fi just might work though, will have to try that one.
My apologies--I should have thanked you both for your input ages ago! Sorry and thanks!
