Will I need a visa?

Hi all. Me and two friends are leaving the UK for a year. We leave on the 5th October and arrive in Bangkok on the 6th October. The thing I am worried about is we leave Thailand on the 8th November and arrive in Oz on the 9th November. Therefore we will be staying in Thailand for over 30 days. Will we need a visa for Thailand or not? Any help will be much appreciated. Regards, Lee.

Head to the Thai consulate and get a visa. Tourist visa fees are being waived at the moment.

It says the once I have the Thai visa I have up to 3 months to get there. So does this mean if I get my visa now, when I arrive in October it will have expired? Or does the visa start once I get to Thailand, like the Australian visa.

You need to enter Thailand before the expiration date. The term of the visa will start then.

Right okay. How long will I have? I'm sure I read somewhere the expiration date is 3 months after you apply for it?

Yes. You must enter Thailand before the 90 days are up. The clock starts when Thailand issues the visa. Apply for your free tourist visa now and you have until Nov. to enter Thailand. Once in Thailand, you have 60 days before you have to leave. You can extend the visa if needed. Good luck with your planning.

Thanks vegasmike6 and curt1591 for all your help. Mike, I noticed you said 'free tourist visa'. I have looked on the Thai consulate site and it still says there is a fee of £28. No mention of it being free?

The fees are supposedly waived. Hopefully, it's a webmaster oversight. Check with the embassy.

I use the for information on all things Thailand. They have always answer all my questions and have issued my friend several free tourist visas in the last year.

Thanks again to the both of you. You have been great help!
