bus from Buenos Aires to Rio de Janeiro

rmconley has indicated that this thread is about Argentina

Hi:

I'm a local from BA.

There is also the brasilian company "PLUMA", and in season other
companies (General Urguiza, etc) put services to Brasil from BA.
There are daily services, and buses are very comfortable, but ...
Atention: it's a 40hs trip!!

I reccomend to divide the trip in two:
For instance, you can go to Iguazu falls (a must place at the
argentine-brasilian border), spend there 1-2 days, then go
to Rio from there (many services).

If you need more info, or accommodation in BA, see my
web (in the profile), and don't hesitate to email me.

saludos / regards

I completely agree about splitting it up. The border is about half way and it would be the sensible option unless of course you have no time. But if you had no time you would be flying.

A visit to the falls on either side of the border is brilliant. Plenty good hostels around there too.

Very easy to organise this sort of bus journey a few days before departure.

Rio bus station is a reasonable taxi journey from Ipenema/Copacabana so you would ideally organise it via your hostel.

Have used Cruz del Norte before and they were pretty good.

+1 on the earlier advice. I would recommend not using Via Bariloche for the first leg. They're no longer the only company with decent service on this route, and they're relatively expensive. I travelled with Tigre Iguazu last time (2008), and they were good and cheap.

a tip I found useful for bus journey's was where possible go to the bus station and just have a look at the buses themselves. You'll soon see the difference in standards. Some agents will tell you that you have a luxury coach awaiting but we all know this may not hold true.

I am trying to recall the name of the company I used for Bs As to Bariloche. They were by far and away the best I used. 9 full cama's downstairs and worth the extra.
