Hi,
If you are travelling to Phnom Penh there is plenty to see and do. Phnom Penh is more built up than the rest of the cities in Cambodia with paved roads and pavements. When I was there we hired a moped and drove to the killing fields which was...an experience. The Killing fields where amazing to see but the ride on the moped though a city where the cross roads are a chaotic mess of people on bikes, cars, carts being pulled by buffalo and no one stopping for red lights was not something I advise. The roads are barely more than a track as soon as you leave the city so taking a tuk tuk ride or taxi would probably be best.
From Phnom Penh take a bus to the quaint town of Siem reap where there are a great selection of restaurants with local food and hotels. You cannot go to Siem Reap without a trip to the ancient temples of Angkor Wat, and your prepared for an early start there is always a taxi driver to take you there for sunrise which makes the trip all the more stunning. We paid for a 3 day pass but you can see all you want to in one day.
I hope you have a fantastic time!
If you're from KL/Malaysia, then the charms of Phnom Penh might hold you for very long. A couple of days, maybe? There's some interesting shopping, spread around a large chaotic city, the Killing Fields and Tuol Sleng (personally, I found this much more affecting). Angkor Wat and the Angkor temples is the real reason people come - understandably! - head up to Siem Reap, and spend 3-4 days here. Spend money on a decent guide. You can't hire a moto in Siem Reap - too many tourists were getting into accidents!
