Hostel bathrooms

What does "shared bathroom" mean? (standard 1 bed/s private shared WC ) Is it in my room & I share it with someone else? I don't think so-just checking. Are there separate girls bathrooms & separte boys bathrooms or is there a bathroom that anybody can use?

I don't know hardly anything about Hostels but i would assume that if you have "Shared Bathroom" it is not in either persons room it would most likely just be a 1 person bathroom in a hallway and a lock that anyone can use... but id get more reference then me since i know next to nothing about travel accommodations. Matthew by the way sorry i cant be more help.

If it's a "Private Shared Bathroom", then you get your own private room, but your bathroom is shared. Like Matthew says, it usually means a bathroom in the hall or something that is shared by a few rooms. For example, I stayed in earlier this year in Berlin and the bathroom was the next door over and no one else was using it, but that was because the other single room in the hall was empty I think. There was a little sink with a mirror in the room itself, so it was really only showering/toilet duties that required going 'next door' I've stayed in at least 4 or 5 budget hotels where I had a single room with a shared bathroom and it's probably one of the best ways to get a much cheaper price on a room. Personally I don't mind it at all, but I can imagine some people like having their own bathroom. Then again, if you are thinking of being in a hostel at all, rooms will pretty much always have shared bathrooms.

Hope that helps!

If you are staying in a private room with shared bath, the bathroom is probably in the hall. Most of the time it's unisex but I did stay in a hostel in Cinque Terre with men and women bathrooms with showers. That hostel had strict rules about "No men in the women's dorms at any time!" so I suppose that's why. It was a green hotel so to conserve water you got one coin a day that gave you a five minute shower. You could buy more coins if you needed more time but the coin slot was outside the shower stall, lol. Five minutes was plenty of time for me. I don't think there are many hostels with time limits on showers. The bad part of shared bathrooms is you have to lug your toiletries and after-shower clothes around with you and it's sometimes a juggling act with clothes inside the room because there's maybe one hook on the door. I suppose people who have lived in dorms are used to all of this.

ok so girls & guys use the same bathroom-at the same time or no?

or are they just 1 toilet, 1 shower in each?

In my limited experience, the shared hallway bathroom is usually for one person at a time. When it was divided by sex, it had multiple stalls and showers. Kind of like a bathroom in a house (unisex) vs. a public restroom (sex-specific).

thanks for the help!
