Can anyone recommend a good arrivals package? I know some people will say they are a total rip off, but I definately want to book something, just one that's decent!
What are you looking for in an arrivals package, as an idea of this will help with choosing the right thing for you.
Good question!
Mainly just airport pickup, a few nights of accommodation, maybe an included excursion of some kind, and some job seeking support (preferably for the whole 12 months in case I need it!)
One idea was to try and find work in Melbourne after starting in Cairns and travelling down the East Coast first.
I like the fact that Bunac have offices in Melbourne and Sydney that you can physically go into to look for available jobs and get help with CVs, job apps etc. But the companies that seem to offer more job support are also the more expensive ones.
I don't think I'll have that much of a problem finding some kind of work based on my work experience but would quite like to have the safety net of some kind of organisation to assist with this just in case (as I'll be giving up my home and well paid job in the UK to go!)
Or am I just being a bit of a wimp?!
One thing you've already mentioned is the arrivals packages tend to be in Sydney, so if you start elsewhere your options will be limited. And yes, places like Bunac can be on the pricey side (they're not as bad as they used to be for Work Australia when you had to use their arranged flights), although for people who need that kind of support they can be good.
It sounds like you're looking for something that isn't "too big".
Probably best for you to look at all the options and decide which fits you best. Some options are:
Bunac/IEP
Travellers Contact Point
Oz Intro
You also mentioned STA, and there are likely to be others too.
Really need some first-hand opinions, thanks!
Just to add, when I came to Australia quite a while ago on a working holiday I used Travellers Contact Point - however during that time I also worked for IEP! TCP were good back then, however their arrivals packages have changed a bit now.
