So, we'll start from the very begining.
There are several ways to get to city - plane, train, bus, car.
plane - airport is from soviet times, now it is beeing renovated, but still not like in Europe.
train - main train station (there is also "suburbs" train staition) is 100 years old, built for the first railroads in Galytchyna, worth seing. It was renovated and looks good from the outside and from the inside.
bus - several bus stations.Nothing interesting. Average bus station.
Now, before geting into town, you need some place to sleep and leave your luggage.
You can find out lots of hostels around the city, but you could be cheeted by photos - sometimes they are not what they looked like in the internet.
There are also several hotels, but only two 5-star hotels Leopolis and Drevny Grad
Of course you can use service of "rent appartment" offices.

Wizzair fly to L'vov (L'viv) from Venice and Dortmund, with connections to Europe - and their planes are not Soviet at all.
The Tourist Information Centre, on vul Vynnychenka 12/14, Lviv, is a fantastic resource. The were very helpful and were really happy to have someone, who had travelled so far (from Australia) to see Lviv, in their centre.
I also recommend going to the Lvivske Museum of Beer and Brewing on vul Kleparivska 18.
I struggle with L'viv (L'vov) in winter.
It really struggles to keep the traffic moving, with very little salt/grit facilities and the train station is terribly cold too. I do like the little hot meat stall outside the station though. Three pieces of hot meat, a bread roll and great big dollop of mustard for under €1, all served on a little paper plate with a plastic fork - yum.
I don't think I've ever seen a city of that size with so many museums. They are everywhere.
However, I'd prefer not to go back again after about mid-September. Too jolly cold.
Some people say Lviv is a second Paris
