Hello everyone,
Rock Backpackers on Phi Phi was very good when I was there. You cant book it though. Have to just turn up and see if there is a room. Mind you, that was before the tsunami, so many things may have changed now. Phi Phi was amazing, I hope it still is.
Thanks for your reply,
Everyone i have asked has said Ko Phi-phi is stunning! It will definitely be one of my destinations.
I stayed on both Koh Tao and Koh Phangan a few years ago (well, 10 to be precise... wow, time flies!). There were a few beaches like that left where it was still very deserted, but most had quite a few bungalows around. Obviously any really off the beaten track places are likely not to be bookable online either.
forget all the touristy places dude,ko samui, phuket, phi phi, there all quite commercialised nowerdays and you will never be more than a few feet away from other backpackers and tourists....
get yourself down to Ranong on the west coast of thailand, get the bus there and it will drop you off at the main bus station, from there ask for a taxi down to the port to get the boat, its almost on the burmese border!!from there you can catch a boat too two islands,ko phayam and ko chang..these are pretty much deserted islands with id say no more than 100 locals on each island..i went to ko phayam and was just going for 2 nights but ended up staying there for 2 weeks..there is no cars or main roads on the island, just dodgy little dirt tracks and a few mopeds for transport!!there are little beach huts dotted about on both of the main beaches, just turn up and ul get one, ranging from the most basic at around 400 baht a night upto 1500 a night!!its completely isolated and cut off from the world, theres a few nice little resraunts in the main village and the locals are really friendly and helpful...get urself there if your after miles of deserted beach, white sand and clear see through sea!!!i did nothing except sunbathe for 2 weeks solid which set me up with a great tan for the rest of my trip!!i met a few english guys who had been going there every winter for years, they leave the uk in october time and rent themselves a beach hut for the whole entire winter, then return to the uk in may time..i promised id keep it quiet as the people who go there for the peace and tranquility worry it will end up like the rest of thailand and will be spoilt by tourists and backpackers and become commercialised etc etc..it really is thailnds last remaining secret, well untill i just blabbered it all out on here...lol...
hope this helps you, have a great trip!!
Dan
