You don't need to book that far in advance, unless you are travelling on a holiday (like Chinese New Year). You should be able to get them for the next day, from a travel agent (in your hotel) or at the train station. There are probably at least a dozen trains on that route, every day.
You don't need to book train tickets in 2 weeks in advance unless you are on season. The travel agency can book train tickets for you. But if you buy tickets on your own, you'd better buy it 5 days in advance, just in case and you can get good seats. And just a reminder, the China Train tickest rules had been changed since Dec 1st. That is if you miss the train, your tickets will never be changed for next train. It means missing a train is lossing your money. Make sure to Leave enough time to catch up your train.
