Travelling from Thailand to Singapore on The Cheap

Hello Everyone,

hey, you may want to check airasia.com in booking your flights. they're on sale right now.

Hello Everyone,

First i'll apologise if this topic has been done a gazillion times.

Now then, i will be landing in Bangkok on the 1st of Jan and need to get
to Singapore on the 16th of Jan by any means necessary for a
connecting flight. Any.

I have found that a 48 hours train can be had for £33 and a flight from BKK
to Singapore is £100. I just don't know if this train ride will will be an
adventure or a burden and if the plane ride can be had cheaper elsewhere.

I have also been advised to possibly go up to Chaing Mai to take a flight
to Singapore. Maybe it's cheaper from there.

So i was wondering if you could help me with this and provide a solution that
is both cheap and time effective, or maybe something from your experience of travelling
across SE asia on different modes of transport.

Thanks,

Josh

I have taken the train from Bangkok to Singapore before. You don't see very much when it is night time. It is noisy and when I stopped for a hotel part way I was pretty grubby for some reason. Bring books to read! If you take a train you can go to Hua Hin for a day or two. Then on to Hat Yai for a day if you want. Then stop for a couple days next in Butterworth for Penang. A stop in KL for a day or two before Singapore might be interesting.

Most expensive place for hotels is Singapore. I think Thailand is cheaper but some out of the way little cities in Malaysia are not that expensive. Penang will be less expensive than KL. KL will be less expensive than Singapore.

What are your plans for Thailand? You might get more bang for your buck there especially if nightlife is on the menu. Singapore is a nice city but beers cost much, much more than Thailand! Malaysians come to Thailand for their cheap vacations!

There is bus travel between most of the major cities too. Buses are a little cheaper than the train but with a train you can walk around a bit.

If you already purchased 2 one-way flights, one to Bangkok and one from Singapore you might be paying a little more than necessary. Some one-way flights cost the same as round trip. Do the math first if you haven't purchased the flights. It may be cheaper to return to Bangkok and fly home from there instead of 2 one-way flights. But it depends on the airlines.

There is an overnight sleeper train that goes to Chiang Mai that is popular. You save paying for another night in a hotel in Bangkok. You should plan your budget out and see how much you can afford for hotels. Then ask for recommendations in your price range, use a baht figure for Thailand. Keep in mind that Singapore will be the most expensive for hotels and entertainment, etc.

Good luck.

Thank you very much for your reply!

I intend to spend as little time as possible in Singapore, as it is only for a connecting
flight.

So what i am looking for now is the cheapest flight down to Singapore from
any Thai region.

I would love to spend as much time in Thailand as possible.

Thanks

Hi,

You might want to take a plane if you intend to enjoy much of your travel in the places you want to go rather than prolonging the idea of getting there. However, getting a train isn't such a bad idea as well, you may take some time to catch some breather and enjoy the ride.

Cheers
