India trip for 2 months, flying to and from Dehli.

Hey,

there are too many places... goa, delhi, varanasi are must... you can also go to places like himachal pradesh (you have many hill stations there), kerela, pushkar, udaipur, jaiselmer... wiki on them and see what u like... iif u can be more specific i may be able to give u a better advice....

India is an enormously complicated country offering a vast number of travel options. It's impossible to summarize this country on a travel forum post.

Start your research by purchasing any of the major travel guides, they offer a wealth of information to get you started and will be an invaluable resource.

Have fun.

Cheers,
Terry

Don't try to pack too much in. India can be a difficult, frustrating and exhausting country to travel in.

there's a good vibe of yoga classes in Anjuna in northern Goa, and I liked this area the most in Goa followed by Palolim in the south. From Goa you could do a trip out to Hampi

Jaipur is a good choice, but maybe make a loop round Rajasthan taking in Jaisalmer and udaipur.

has most of the info you need on train travel around India.

Hey,

me and my girlfriend are planning a trip to India in March and April. We have never been to India before, and are looking for some advice along the way. We are both landing and departing from Dehli, but we would like to spend most of our time other places. Our first thought was to spend a couple of days in Dehli before we start the travelling.

The month of April is quite hot in northern India, be prepared for that ! Delhi is nice to begin with and you will get an opportunity to taste lot of authentic Indian food in and around Delhi. The Golden triangle of Delhi--Agra--Jaipur is a must and is very easy to do, there are good quality trains between these cities.

Our goals for the trip include:
- Seing the differences of the Indian big cities and the villages
- Get to do some surfing
- Try as much great Indian food as possible
- Do yoga/meditation, maybe visit an Ashram.

We thought something like: Dehli - Jaipur/agra - Goa - Dehli, and stop several places on the way. Do you know of any nice places in these areas?

After finishing the Golden triangle, i would recommend u to move north and visit the cities of Haridwar/Rishikesh to get a feel of the Indian culture and Haridwar is also famous for it yoga centres. Once finished with these u can move up further to visit the state of Himachal PRadesh which has beautiful hill towns like Shimla, Manali, Mc Leodganj, Dalhousie, etc.
Then u can move down south and beginning with Goa, u can explore the western coast of India and end up in Kerala.

Is there anybody who has any experience to share, advice or do`s or dont`s?

It is pretty much safe in south India; just follow the usual precautions as is expected for a tourist
Try travelling in AC-3tier coaches in trains, the fare of which is slightly more than the ordinary sleeper class.

Additionally, take the following precautions:
1. Dont hang out too late at night, especially in isolated places
2. Dress modestly
3. If ur lost and need help avoid middle-aged men, seek help from women or elderly people
4. Try to book ur train/air tickets in advance.

What do you think of our plan? We`d like to travel by train, what is the prices on public tranport?

Thank you so much!

Just to give an idea of the price of train tickets, a journey from delhi to Mumbai of around 1400 kms costs around Rs 1200(20 Euro) for a sleeper berth in AC-3T. The train timings, days of operation, fare can be checked on www.indianrail.gov.in . On the home page click on the “Train/Fare Accommodation” link and type in the details are required. For online booking of train tickets use www.irctc.co.in , booking of tickets open 90 days in advance.

Hope this helps

I notice you are 35 and thus middle aged. Does that mean people should avoid you?

ahhh.. thats a good one.... but i think at 35 im young and not middle aged...

Hey guys.

Thank you all so much, all of this is so helpful! You are amazing, I will most def buy a guidebook, but your help is so valuable that I will keep it in my head at all times.

I will read upon all the places you have mentioned, and hope to see them all.

Again, thank you,

safe travels!

Just an example of what I did:

I was in India last December for 3 weeks. I did a round trip Delhi - Agra - Jaipur - Pushkar - Todagargh - Udaipur - Jodhpur - Jaisalmer - Bikaner - Mandawa - Delhi in 2 weeks with a driver. Then chilled out in Rishikesh for a couple of days and went back home. It was a fantastic trip. Rajasthan has so much to offer. Rishikesh is a beautifull place to do yoga and relax.

Good luck and have fun!
