2-3 weeks in China

Hey travellers, i'm in need of some assistance!

Try to fly to Chengdu (capital of Sichuan province).
1) And from Chengdu take southern Sichuan-Tibet highway towards the west (Ganze and later Litang) . From Litang go south to Yunnan province. It will be a very adventurous and beautiful journey in high altitude tibetan areas with some amazing scenery.
2) When you are in Yunnan in the north, do a trek in Tiger Leaping Gorge.
3) Lijiang (especially) and Dali are very beautiful historical towns.
4) Kunming (capital of Yunnan) is a modern but enjoyable city.
5) You take road in two steps from Kunming to the Lao border.
6) North of Laos is nice too.

You will have an amazing journey! This is a five start route - I promise!

You can find good info on the internet, but hostels will help you out as well and you can join other adventurous travellers to share your journey.

Sounds great! just my kind of trip with a lot of scenery!

Still, I totaly new to China, and event though i'm not that in to it, I actually want to see the great wall and so forth. What are the big scenes in china anyway.... the ones you "have to see"?

anyway, this trip sounds amazing... are there good trekking opportunities along this trip? i really want to get to nepal and in to tibet later on the trip (that is not included in the 2-3 weeks). would you say this trip has a mix of the cultural side of china, and at the same time a lot of scenery? i'm doing the trip in september, any thoughts?

GETTING PUMPED UP! wow!

So in total, i have this idea of starting in China and working my way into laos, then thailand, and the some how to tibet ---> nepal, and india..... do not really know if it's possible... but have 3 and a half month to do it.

Anyone with any suggestion to where one would go on a trip like this, or an itinerary suggestion?

Thanks!!

if you want to get to nepal, you could just travel overland from thailand to laos and take the previously mentioned route (reverse way) in china all the way up to chengdu.
in chengdu you can arrange a trip thru the tibetan autonomous region and beyond to nepal.

hostels in chengdu will be able to help you arrange your trip thru tibet into nepal. might make sense to contact them beforehand, otherwise waiting time is about a week.

there is a section of great wall near chengdu as well - it is just lesser known.

Hi there,

My BF and I are flying into Beijing at the beginning of Sept and planning a similar trip. Over 8 months we're working our way through China and then into Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos, Indonesia, Bangladesh and then India. We'll only be spending about 3 weeks of that in China.

The Great Wall is at the start of our list and then our goal is to work our way to Vietnam via Shanghai and Hong Kong and hit any interesting spots along the way.

I'm just starting to research now so I will keep you posted as we work out a rough itinerary!

Sounds awesome! I'll do the same for you.

Thanks guys!

Btw: anyone know if the tiger leaping gorge is any good. Want to do a trek there...maybe 3 days or something like that!

thanks for all the answers!

After some research I have figured out that my trip would begin in Beijing, then on to xian, then chengdu, and here is where I lose it a little. As i said earlier I'm going in to laos from china, så the problem is to figure out where and how I go from chengdu to laos. I'm really into the scenery part of backpacing, so this is the most important thing to experience.

I'm still totaly open to any suggestions on how to make this trip best possible, for instans, is Guilin/Yangshou worth going to when it is a little of course?

Thank you very much for all your help travellers and good traveling!
