Thailand- money access trouble,

hello der,

getting money out in thailand i mean??

Change banks or open up another account in a different bank that is more user friendly! I have bank and credit union debit cards. I use the credit union debit cards in Thailand all the time without any problems. Been doing this for many years! One debit card has Mastercard affiliation and the other Visa.

Maybe it is time for you to open a second bank or even a credit union account. You can also use travelers checks in Thailand. Of all of the countries in Asia I think Thailand is the easiest to cash a travelers check in. Only bring the largest denomination travelers check because there is a fee of 33 baht to cash a TC. But the fee to use an ATM for the same amount of money is 150 baht!

Most of my available money is in my bank account. But I don't use that card overseas, although I can. I make internet transfers from that bank to my credit union account. I only keep a set amount in my debit card accounts that I use overseas for safety.

You can also bring cash to Thailand. Only take the largest denominations you can get. Make sure the bills are clean, newer series and not torn. Don't bother with small denominations to save room in your wallet.

"do i get visa here or there??????"

This depends on what country passport you are using to enter Thailand and how long you intend to stay there.

For many countries you just show up at the airport and for free get a 30 day stamp in your passport allowing you to enter.

thankz for the info, am trying to get a different account with nother bank,

so do u think taking travellers cheques wld be better idea than keep getting charged by atms. Traveelers cheques?? post office??

thankz again.

For Thailand travelers checks are okay. You have security with them that you do not have with cash. Also they get a little more in exchange than cash. But do not bring any of the small denominations because the fee is the same to cash a cheap check as a big check. Same with ATM withdrawals, take out the most you can at one time so you don't have lots of fees for small withdrawal amounts.

Some travelers don't care for travelers checks and others (like me) always have some available. I get my TCs without fees from my credit unions back home. You can record the serial numbers of your TCs in email form and save the email in a folder. You can also save need to know information in email form too that you save. But don't use an email address that other people know your password to. You can also record the serial numbers of your large currency. If your cash is stolen at least you will be able to recognize your missing bills. Save copies of your flight itinerary this way and you always have that data available. There are many cheap internet shops in Thailand you can use to pull up your email account.

Don't forget to tell your bank you will be using their cards overseas. When you fly home there are money changers also available near the departure desks. You can get rid of your Thai baht at that time.

I think a mix of cash, debit card and cash works okay. I do have credit cards available for emergencies that may come up. So far I have never had to use a credit card in a dozen years in Thailand. For cheap purchases in stores and restaurants I use Thai baht. I feel the less I expose my debit (or credit) cards the less chance of fraud.

Use the security box or safe at your hotel to safeguard valuables and cash. When I go out overseas I only take enough cash with me to see me through a day or two of purchases. If you allow any visitors into your hotel room never leave cash, cell phone, passport, etc. out in plain sight. If something is stolen from your hotel room more often it will be a guest you allow in!

"I think a mix of cash, debit card and cash works okay. I do have credit cards available for emergencies that may come up."

Should say "I think a mix of cash, debit card and TRAVELERS CHECKS works okay."

Sorry.

All normal bank cards should work at most ATMs, even in Thailand.

However the Lloyds bank card people are T-H-I-C-K. I sent them letters before I went to Thailand one year, telling them where I would and when I would be there, and that I would be using my Lloyds card while there. About the same times and places as the two previous years.

But in Thailand I could not get any money from my card. They wanted me to phone them first to say I was in Thailand, which is not very easy to do. I got through on my hotel phone after over two hours waiting.

They pleaded ignorance but I accused them of tearing my letter up and throwing it into the bin unread. I pointed out to them that my local Lloyds bank had just the other day sent me my latest bank statement which I had received at my hotel in Thailand.

Do not rely on one card. Get some other cards, even if you don't use them. Take your cheque book(s) and you can make payments while away. You can try your card to draw say £50 shortly after arrival to see if it works so if it doesn't you have time before your money runs out to see what the clods are playing at.

hey u might want to think of getting a prepaid mastercard, i got one myself whilst traveling out round SE Asia, worked in every cash point i tried plus the charges were alot cheaper than my Halifax account.. it's great for budgeting aswell just top it up with what u need.. i would suggest u changing ur account and taking that card along with u just incase u loose the prepay card.

link below of the prepaid card i used on my travels..
