Hi Kelly,
I lived in Australia for a year. I lived in Sydney and just traveled out from there. I took a tour for my first outing just to get a hold of things. After that you get an idea about what you want to see and where you would like to go back to.
What kind of things are you interested in? Nature, sailing, adventure...Ect. Let me know and I will tell you my favorite places to go.

Thanks for replying I'm in the UK at the moment.
I have friends in the Brisbane area but not to travel with they're settled there so I was planning on seeing them first and starting from there.
I like to surf and nature is big on my list, also interested in history and people.
Do you work out there?
I did workout there. I had a working holiday visa and ended working for 6 months in 3 month intervals. I didn't find that it was worth it for me to work on a holiday visa because I got taxed like crazy. If you can find a place that will pay cash try that out.
As for sites to see for nature Cairns has really good snorkeling and you can branch out there to see a lot of other places. The Whitsunday Islands are a given. Closer to Melbourne there are a lot of animal reserves. Steve Irwin zoo is pretty awesome to. If you go to Alice springs go to the kangaroo rescue center. You can hold baby kangaroos there. Tasmania I heard is a really beautiful place to go hang out for a couple days. I have only heard amazing things about the ecology. The blue mountains are really nice. If you like hiking there are a bunch of trails to adventure out on.
As for surfing Surfers Paradise is awesome. It is a fun party town but it can wear old after a few days. They also have really good outlet shopping there. There is also surfing as you go along the whole east coast but if you want to learn I think Surfers is a good place to go. I know they have a surf camp that you can spend a few days learning.
Darwin has a lot of history as it was one of the main battle spots in world war 2. I warn you that the town itself is not very great. If it is history that interests you maybe you can look past that. Melbourne for some reason I like for a historic feel. Not sure about its history but it feels like a traditional European city. The great ocean road is a must and if you can head to Philip island to see the ferry penguin march. I didn't make it to Adelaide or west. I heard Adelaide has an amazing wine region if you are into that.
I realized that I didn't say much about Sydney I guess that's because that's where I lived. The aquarium and wildlife center in downtown Sydney was one of my favorite.
There is much more but I don't want to overwhelm you. Let me know how your planning is going and if you have any more questions. I am sure there will lots of help from others as well.
Looking for jobs in Oz is pretty much the same as doing it in England. Get out there, find yourself somewhere to stay and sign up to a few recruitment agencies. I did that in Sydney and got good, well paid office work immediately.
I have to say I spent around 10 months in Oz in total, which included 6 months working and I wished I had spent less time there and more time in New Zealand which I infinitely preferred.
I did like Perth though and Tasmania is beautiful. The Great Ocean Road is definitely worth it as are the Whitsundays and Fraser Island.
Australia is very expensive, so you will need to have some savings to tide you over until you get a job, but the economy is strong out there so I don't think you will have too much of a problem.
just do it babe , thats wat i was thinking and now im here on the gold coast and im just going with the flow , work is hard to find out here and i think prices have gone up since i was like here just living prices. Let me no if you do come and we can meet

What can i say guys thats plenty of info for me to go on and has definately helped get rid of any niggling doubts i had!
Hope i meet people as nice as you guys have been.
I plan to get a map of Australia and start pinpointing where i want to go and what i want to do.
If it all changes once i get there at least i set out with good intentions.
Going with the flow and having a fair idea of what you want to see and do seems like the best plan!
