Worst month of my life, travelling alone advice

Hi all,

Are you being serious?! 24, too old to travel?! No way.

You could do South East Asia for anything from £500 a month. I was spending about £150 a week, staying in decent hotels, eating out every day, etc, etc.

I know i sound stupid. I have a weird outlook on life hah.

Thats amazing though Steve, thanks so much

June to October in Thailand is the rainy season. It might just be a bit of drizzle and it might pour heavily for days. The end of this month is the best time to go, till April (though it gets hotter month by month).

As Steve said, staying in Thailand is cheap. So are a number of nearby countries to Thailand. It is the fare which is expensive. If you plan to stay longer than 30 days, you will need a visa from a Thai embassy. Or you can get a cheap flight out of the country and come back for another 30 days. Twice.

If you want to get over a bad time, why are you waiting 8 months? If you live in northern Europe, get a cheap flight to southern Spain and pick up some cheap accommodation there for a time.

I went when I was 30 and never felt old! Air Asia do pretty reasonable flights to Asia, my flight home from Kuala Lumpur to London Stansted was about £250 I think.

I have to wait that long to get savings and sort out the letting of my house etc, I wanted to do cambodia, vietnam and laos.

Thanks for the advice regarding visas etc

Too old!!!????? My god, I'm 34 and feel like a kid again on my current 3 month travels (though I'm not as keen on the late night parties as I used to be)! Start planning now and then keep planning in future.

I am 57 and travel somtimes by myself or sometimes with others every year. Earlier year was Laos by myself for a month, (which is very inexpensive btw). This December it is Burma and last year India. Too old?......as long as you can still walk and breathe you are never too old.

Many retirees, even little old ladies traveling alone, visit Thailand all the time. You are not too old at all! Since you have a house and probably some money to spend you are not in the same category that many backpackers are in. You will be able to stay in hotels with air and maybe eat in slightly better restaurants.

Plan a budget out and see how much you can spend and then match your holiday to what you can afford. When you decide where to go and need hotel recommendations mention how much per night you want to spend on a hotel room. Someone will be able to suggest a place to stay at.

For Thailand don't skip Bangkok. From the airport there is even a new Airport Rail Link that can take you into the city cheap. This rail link even meets up with the Skytrain and with the Subway too. Try to include Chiang Mai into your travel plans for Thailand.

Good luck.
