Hi I'm mike 24 and flying out to brisbane 3rd of jan for the year. Going to head to the Gold Coast first off and chill out on the beach for a while before deciding where to travel to in Oz and Nz! Anyone around here at this time? Or know the prices or availability of hostels in the Gold Coast?
I really liked the Sands Hostel at Collangata, its a bit more laid back than Gold Coast which to me has a tacky tourist over the top feel to it. Better still, hop on a mini bus for about $30 to Byron Bay where its ultra laid back and great beaches. Don't worry about meeting up with folks, at this time of year there will be heaps of people to meet up with, just hang at your hostel and they will swarm round you like flies. Which actually brings up a point, book ahead at least for a couple of days, as the hostels tend to be well booked at that time of year.

Thanks for the info dodger. Looks like i'll be meeting my brother at the airport and heading straight to byron bay now after a few days in bribane. And i see what you mean about booking now because it's looking busy!
