I land in Bangkok at 1.10am (Alone!!) on Thursday Morning and im not quite sure what to do!
Shall i stay close to the airport for one night and head into Bangkok in the morning or shall i head straight to Khan San Rd?
I think you should make a hotel/hostel reservation wherever you want and go there - not a bad time to arrive since traffic will be light, but don't stay near the airport. You will need a cab since the trains/buses don't run at that hour.
Ditto Daawgon, just take a taxi to your hotel/hostel, no big deal.
Have fun.
Cheers,
Terry
I agree with the others. It's no problem just to get a taxi to your hotel in Khao San Road. Its probably best to book ahead so they know your coming, as you don't want to wonder around looking for a place at that hour. You'll be surprised though, Khao San will still be pretty busy at that hour.
nice let es all know how it goes when you can i cant wait to get out there!!
Just head for your hotel and be done with it! A hotel near the airport probably wouldn't save you more than 20 minutes anyway! In the morning you still have to go to your other hotel anyway because there really is nothing near the airport.
At 1:10 a.m. you will have to use a meter taxi to your hotel. Millions of tourists have done this over the years. There is a Public Taxi sign up area on the first floor near the curb area.
When you change your currency over at the airport remember to get small bills for paying the taxi drivers. Don't expect a taxi driver to have change for even a 500 baht note. (Money changers run by banks available at the airport 24 hours a day.)
Khao San road is not the only area of Bangkok that has cheap hotels. Other areas have cheap hotels, nightlife, restaurants, malls you can walk to plus use the Skytrain too!
Yeah my vote is also to just jump in a taxi. But if you are arriving straight from Europe there is a high chance that there are other backpackers on your flight. When you go to get your bags at the carousel keep a look out for them and don't be afraid to ask them if they are going to Khao San Rd, and can you share the taxi with them. My preference is for Soi Ram Butri, a small alley with guest houses and restaurants just round the corner from Khao San. Its still best to ask to be dropped at Khao San as all taxi drivers know this, but then walk over to Soi Ram Butri and yes even at 2 or 3am it is perfectly safe.
