As you have read, Loy Krathong is a major holiday in Thailand. I suggest you consider celebrating it in Pattaya. Here is a to last years celebration. When you have thousands of krathongs floating out to sea and hundreds of lanterns taking off, it really is a memorable sight. Good luck with your planning.

Officially Loy Krathong 2012 is on Nov 28 (Wednesday).
The calendar in the forum shows 27 to 29 as a festive period. I also participate there -snip-
Krafa. I had a look at the site you have been mentioning. It's a bit too expensive and exclusive for many people here.

I know that this is an old post but I'm thinking of heading to Thailand (largely because of Loy Krathong).
I know that the big cities like Chiang Mai, Bangkok and Ayutthaya are excellent places to be for Loy Kratong, but does anyone know if places like Krabi, Phuket and Pha Ngan are any good. I'm looking for tradition more than tourists letting them off from hotels so any help would be super. Otherwise I might have to fly out of my way to Bangkok or Chiang Mai.

Im not sure about Loi Krathong being celebrated in the islands because there is a full moon party going on during the same time.
