No clue about the one way ticket, but UK passport holders don't require a Visa for Thailand.

You may find you will have problems at check in if you have no proof of return or onward travel. The airline may refuse to fly you. Who are you flying with?
I think we all get visa-on-arrival with no need of any special kind of visa, we don't really even need a tourist visa.
BUT
when i leave from USA to Thai, if 1-way ticket, i MUST have tourist visa or they won't let me fly. So if UK and USA same on that rule, then you should really get a tourist visa.

I fly on a one way ticket to Bangkok from the US all the time. I've never been refused my seat. I've also flown back to Thailand's many airports from other countries in SEA without a problem. Thailand is the easiest country to visit. You get a 30 day visitor visa upon arrival by air, 15 days by land.
Ya, it's up to the front counter people of your airline.... they are supposed to not let you fly 1-way, unless you have tourist visa.

I've gone to Chicago airport with a 1-way flight to Bangkok before.... front desk turned me down, and I had to go get a hotel, stay the night, and book return flight in order to be allowed to fly, was a terrible experience.
Better get tourist visa if 1way flight, to avoid any kind of bs
i agree with Zachary, I flew with a one way ticket but had a visa. If i didnt have one they werent going to let me fly.
Thanks for the info everyone. I'm going to look at getting a visa from here...but also if I book a flight out of Thailand from vietnam to hong kong, does this make me eligible for a visa on arrival?
How long do you plan on being in Thailand?
From where I fly from in the US with one-way flight only and no tourist visa the airline will not let you board.
From the UK, using a major airline, one-way flight to Bangkok may cost almost the same as a round-trip ticket. Flying back to Bangkok for a flight home may still be cheaper than 2 one-way long distance flights from and to the UK.
Do the math. Some airlines allow you to book a return many months ahead or even have an open return. Flying from Bangkok to various nearby countries is not that expensive.
