Hey everyone!
Not many jobs there and many do fruit picking which is seasonal. You cannot wander around and casually pick up jobs as you go. As Australia is quite an expensive place to visit, don't expect to put lots of money away from any job you do get. You should check on possible jobs now.
Perth is a LONG way from the east coast of Australia. To give you some idea, Sydney to Perth is 2045 miles. Perth in Scotland to Malaga in southern Spain is just 1360 miles. I did not think there was much in Perth (Australia) but that may have just been me.
As to hostels in Sydney, try the accommodation link at the top of the page. Ideally you will want something near public transport. Be aware that if your plane arrives very early or very late, some hostels do not have 24 hour check in.
A Lonely Planet guide to Australia is a good investment. Check out one at W H Smiths, etc.
Thanks for the reply!
Yeah I've heard that about jobs so I've been looking. It seems a lot of them are 'immediate starts' so not of use as I have 12 weeks left but I'm registering with a couple of agencies in the hopes of finding something.
I should have £4000 and have prepaid two weeks in a hostel so I'm hoping this will be enough that I wont be worrying straight away and look for a job asap.
I know a couple of people in Perth and that's why I'd like to go there - especially towards the end of my travels so I can save some money but I've heard its beautiful.
Thanks for the help on the hostel, I've found one that I think will be perfect. I want to look in to it a little more in terms of location but it seems reasonably priced for the facilities.
Hey travelling friend!
I'm just in the process of switching my Canadian Registered Nurse license to Australian, looking to book a flight mid-September optimistically. Wanting to work and travel, would love to meet up in Sydney!
Hey Carmen,
Im planning on being in Sydney October time (depending on saving). Not got any exact dates booked yet but planning on getting flights, hostels booked soon.
I know people in Sydney who have offered me work if I want it so thats really the reason im starting there. Planning on maybe staying to catch xmas and New Year, then go with the flow and see where I end up.
Are you going on your own?
Would be cool to meet up, nice to maybe here a familiar accent
Drop me a message on Fb or something and keep in touch.
All the best
Stu
Hi jpohl.
That's so exciting! Good luck with that :D I'd love to meet up in Sydney if we are there at the same time. Add me on Fb and we can arrange something x
Hi Stu!
How exciting. The more people who say they are doing it the more it makes me excited and know I'm making the right decision.
I may still be in Sydney at that point - depending if I can find work.
You are so lucky to know people who will give you work, bet it makes you feel a bit better about it all.
I'm going on my own completely. No company or anything but I've already spoke to so many nice people it makes me feel a bit better. What about you?
I can't seem to add you on FB! Add me if you can though. Would be so good to speak to another Scot.
Take care
Carmen x
Im the same just want the next 23 weeks (not that im counting) to fly in and get away.
I did sort of land on my feet there to be honest. Its not the kind of work im looking for but I couldnt turn it down.
Yeah im the same! I thought about maybe going through a company but once I came on here and realised there was so many people doing the same there wasnt much point.
Have you got anything planned for when you are out there? Or just going with the flow?
Stu x
Hi Carmen,
I'm going to be heading out to Sydney around the same time as you (haven't booked anything yet so not exactly sure when) but I'm definitely going to do an arrival package with Ultimateoz, you should check them out, I've heard some good reports and it looks like they sort you out with everything!
Cheers
J
