Confused about how i should travel Amalfi coast

russwongg has indicated that this thread is about Italy

Amalfi coast ia a collection of all town: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amalfi_Coast

i will suggest you to stay in sorrento as you will be in a middle and as sorrento is a good place.

bye

Hi,
i'm from Napoli and I hope I can clarify your doubts
capri is an island and is not part of amalfi's coast, neither pompei.
sorrento is on the Napoli's side of the peninsula containing as well amalfi and positano (both on the side of salerno - it means from Napoli you cant see them).

I would NEVER in my life stay in sorrento.
It's over rated by american and british tourists.
Better to stay in Napoli and travel to all the destinations you desire.

Prices are higher, nothing really to see and to do.
Moreover I would recommend to visit flegrean fields, an interesting land where you can find Cuma (the oldest ancient greek colony in italy, older than rome and Napoli), volcaninc lakes (averno lake was mentioned in odissy by virgilio), solfatara volcano and Pozzuoli with its unique phenomenon called 'bradisismo' etc...

Think that best fish restaurants are in Pozzuoli, best nightlife is there (neapolitans go there in the night).

Wow, thanks for the informative reply.

From what i've heard, Napoli is a rough town and people have told me there is nothing much to do there. However, judging from what you say, sorrento seems to be a very tourist filled place. I think I will decide to stay in Napoli now, but is it easy to get from napoli to capri or sorrento or pompei?

Sorry to not know much about the area but is Pozzuoli near Napoli?

Also, i am afraid of racism when i go to italy. I would love to immerse myself in the culture and do what locals do and go where locals go. I am learning to speak a bit of italian to communicate with them. - do you know where i can go to enjoy maybe a good cup of coffee or restaurants or shopping where they are not out to take the money of tourists? Or any must-go local spots?

Also, are there any important information to know when traveling around there?

Thanks! I really appreciate your info!
