Kiwi Experience

Hey, I'm Charley and I'm planning on travelling around Australia and New Zealand from Feb 2014.

Hi Charley

Kiwi Experience has a reputation for being a bit of a party bus so it depends if that's what you want. I'd recommend both Magic bus and Stray for travelling in New Zealand; they do pretty much the same routes as the Kiwi experience but are less party- orientated. I used them both for various routes and had a great time. It's easy to meet people but you don't feel pressured into having to join in socially if you don't want to.

Hi Charley

Im will be in New Zealand from mid-Jan 2014. I am looking into getting a camper van or something instead of bus travel. I have got a Working visa though so not sure where I will base myself yet. Im thinking of just arriving and seeing what happens really.

Hi Martin,

That sounds like a good idea. I'm still not sure if I'm going to go with bus travel or just do it myself.. too many options haha!

How long do you plan on staying in NZ for?

I have no idea. I have booked one way ticket so up to a year. Maybe more.

If you have come up to a group of people to travel with you around New Zealand, it would be better if you will be renting a Campervan. It will be private for the group where you can save a lot of money as you don't have to pay additional prices for like waitress tips, room service, or etc. And not to mention you can stay in a places like the Hokitika Holiday Park in Hokitika, the Mt. Somers Holiday Park near Ashburton. You can try Abel Tasman stunning beaches and all lot more.

The buses are good but do eat up your time as you have to spend a minimum of two nights in most places; getting there, doing activity, leaving next day. They are also good as now have wi-fi on magic bus and they can sort activities on the way round.

Jucy Lucy car hire is very cheap, and I would really recommend getting a car in New Zealand as there are so many great lookout point etc. it is also really well set up for camper vanning and hitch hiking is very common practice.

Also look at car relocation http://whereswilly.travellerspoint.com/14/ we got 900km for $1! Age restrictions may apply.

Enjoy!
