Didn't make it on NYE, but a few of my mates did and said it was "okay". Their specific words were "sausage fest". So not having gone personally idk if they just had rough nights. But I imagine it would be best to book well in advance, although I never made it back to my room on full moon.. Or half moon for that matter!
If you someone end up for half moon. Baan tai backpackers is the place for you, or even full moon. It's not on Haad Rin but it's a cheap ride away with a group and the owner is awesome, managed to keep is WELL entertained when the island lost power for 3 days. Baan Tai backpackers! Give it a look.
I love it there , full moon party is a bit mad but plenty to do and very cheap to stay , I would say either ore book or just turn up about a week before NYE , that's what I'm doing , I do it most years and I always stay in two rocks resort in bantai , get some great party's round that way
