Hi all,
What part of the planning are you finding difficult?
1.) Thailand is arguably the most popular "foreign" backpacking destination in the world. It has hosted western budget travellers for decades so it's covered in great detail by a multitude of excellent guide books and travel websites. It has one of the most extensive backpacking infrastructures on the planet. It is FILLED with countless first timers just like you so going solo is immaterial.
2.) Australia and New Zealand speak the very same language as you, watch mostly the same movies, listen to mostly the same music, eat mostly the same food, wear mostly the same clothes, etc. They both have a superb support network for foreign tourists including budget backpackers. They both have a long and intricate history and cultural ties with your home country. In other words neither country is exotic or intimidating or a difficult destination in the slightest. They're both super easy places to travel and just different enough to be really cool and fun.
Bottom line: You're not attempting anything unique or difficult, millions before you have done the very same thing.
Relax and have fun with your research. You're going to have a gas!
Cheers,
Terry

Hey
I was in this position last year, I ended up booking something with Ozintro and went from there, they were absolutely brilliant. I did Oz then NZ then moved onto Asia and it was the best decision I ever made.
Hope this helps.
Naomi
