Hi everyone,
Hey...
Are you planning to do any volunteering while being in India? I would be going there myself in June. I been there few times before, and you easily meet people if you stay in the backpacker areas. I spend over 12 months there so far, and I have never felt unsafe there. The people are very sweet and welcoming. But there are of course few rules to follow, always cover shoulders and knees, and as a girl don't go around in some areas after some special timings, then everything should be fine. I never had any bad experience and have only good things to say about the country:-) How many months do you have there? And are you planning to travel all of India?
Hey E11ie,
let me know if you have any specific concern which you would like to get it addressed.
As you're planning for the Month of March - You may come across with the Festival of Colors "HOLI", Now places in North like Vrindavan, Mathura, Varanasi you can enjoy this festival and be a part of it. And this time the summers would actually start, so you need to carry a high spf sunscreen and from there you can plan for Goa...
However people can also explore untouched territory like Daman, Silvassa etc....
Let me know if you require any further information...
Hi everyone,
I really want to head to India around March time 2014 for a couple months or as long as my very tight budget allows.
I hear India isn't the safest of places to travel alone and so was hoping someone somewhere was heading that way
and fancied maybe tackling the amazing country together.I have a very rough idea of my plan so feel free to message me and chat a bit more if you're interested.
Cheers
Hi!
India is not that much expensive to visit if you budget your plan. There are good places, hotels , restaurants etc at reasonable price as well you can find high class rooms, hotels, restaurant.... so it's totally on you what you want and how much you want to spend. I think travelling India for a middle class person from any country would not be much expensive.
As You plan to stay for as long as 2 months I think you might go for voluntary or as far as travelling whole India. The time of March is Festival season for the Holi if it like early or end of the month. In UP Varanasi, Vrindavan, Mathura, Allahabad have best of Holi played there. THe festival is celebrated with good courage and happiness. While Jaipur can also be fun for You their for HOli. Are you have some specific think in Mind to go. Basically foreigner prefer going rajasthan or GOa if not Kerala.
Whhat is you are to concern you want to go? Have anything in mind? If want more details, travel itenaries tell me. I can help you in planning your journey.
Hi,
You never feel unsafe in India, Don't go anywhere alone in night. apart from this India is very sweet country , The people around are innocent and welcoming. Visit Varanasi and Mathura in march actually HOLI "the festive of colors" celebrate in march specially in Mathura. gave a great time in India.

Yes the time for Holi - festival of colour is gathering around at that time so there would be more enjoyment for you all.
HI everyone thank you for your responses.
I plan to travel as much of India as I can on the money I have. I hear March is a good season for up north but am unsure when id best to head south?
My concerns are that India is a very different place to home and can be very overwhelming. My friends that have travelled there have all loved it but would not suggest going alone due to the intensity of the situation. So I am just seeing if anyone else is heading there at this time.
Many thanks guys

I spent 3 months in India earlier this year and loved it. It took a while to get use to the food etc as such a big culture shock from the UK. It is very cheap so you get really good value for money and I never felt unsafe at any time. Travel by train if you have time as it is a real experience.
As Far as I concern I have seen, India is not that bad as people think. Yeah there is some trouble because of the poor peoples as they fight for their livelihood which is going in wrong direction. They do everything to earn and that effect the whole society. If you abide some rule and follow some culture of their then i believe you can find sugar mixing in water.
For woman now a days in some place particularly delhi is dangerous where you need to take if you are going in night or evening.
