traveling solo and extremely nervous

hi my name is Rachel iv been thinking about traveling around Australia for a good few years now and finally decided the time is rite for me to do this im thinking I want to start in sydney on m thinking about going in march time iv had a look into this ultimate oz backpacking ageny website because im extremely nervous and never done anything like this before has anyone done the ulitmate oz or could anyone give me advice on what to do when I get there x

Rachel, there is NO need to be so nervous.

Remember that you're going to a country that speaks the very same language, watches mostly the very same movies, listens to mostly the very same music, eats mostly the same food, wears mostly the same clothes, etc... Australia has a superb support network for foreign tourists including a great infrastructure for budget backpackers.

In other words you're not going to the Indian Subcontinent or Africa. Australia is not an exotic or intimidating or difficult destination in the slightest, it's a super easy place to travel and just different enough to be really cool and fun for a first time nervous traveller.

Bottom line: Relax and have a gas.

Cheers,
Terry

thank you so much for your reply im not really a spontaneous person and im sick of been stuck in this horrible town that I live in and doing the same things day in day out I want to experience and explore different things im just nervouse about going on my own the feelibg of been lonely and having no friends its just veey daunting for me that's all as its so far away x

Australia is FILLED with nervous first timers just like yourself. Honestly, it's a very easy destination. Hit up a party hostel and you'll have a new circle of friends instantly.

Remember, you're not doing anything unique or odd... millions of travellers before you have been in the very same situation. You're not breaking any new ground.

Do your research... buy a guide book... start reading travel forums like this one and some of the endless travel blogs that are out there... then just do it!

Cheers,
Terry

thank you I will x

Rachel! I'm in the same boat! When are you off?

Hi Rachel,

It's such a great step that you're making. Honestly, travelling by yourself can be a incredibly intimidating venture, but you will find that you have no real reason to be nervous... everything will work out just fine!
This is especially true going to Australia... you really need not be nervous (though I know it's hard to just cut the nervousness out of your mind)... but just get going and you'll realize how great of an experience it is.
