Leaving a partner and solo traveling.

Hi All!

LAD

I started in Melbourne in December everyone i met during the first few weeks had came over from Southeast Asia with the same mindset on getting a job and saving.

i would say the best time to get a job in Melborne would be June - November (Winter time)

^ Agree on the job suggestion.

Remember businesses normally look to hire Christmas/summer casuals around Oct-Nov. The danger for a lot of people on these forums seems to be that they think about when they want jobs not when businesses need to hire and train staff.

* This could be completely different depending on your chosen industry but I refer to retail/hospitality work as a guide.

Hey Josh

I have recently had a meeting with STA to discuss travel plans to Oz and they reckon that its pretty easy to get work in any big city at any time of year. The lady I spoke to said most people can get work within two weeks as long as they are not too picky on what job they would like to do.

Im thinking of flying out mid October and heading to Sydney first before heading up the coast to Cairns.
Hope this helps.

Lucy

Hahahaha! Sorry, but STA will say that.

I don't want to discourage but I do want to forewarn: I know someone that did not find a job for well over a month and that was searching the whole time. Just be prepared for it not to be a walk in the park.

ahahah i turned down a job with STA they will say anything to get a deal done. Australia is no walk in the park the way i got my jobs was down to pure luck being in the right place at the right time.

Remember there will be lots and i mean lots of backpackers fighting for the same jobs. Advice when asked by an employer how long you're staying for don't say 1-3 months LIE! say for as long as you need me.

I agree ^^ Tell them that you're leaning towards something long term. Melbourne and Brisbane are great places to start with. Make sure to get there before the lots of tourists and backpackers finding a job like you arrive. Best of luck!

Hi Joshua

I was in a similar situation as you I have recently split with my GF so I can go travelling to OZ. Its something I have always wanted to do and she 1 was not up for it 2 could not get a visa due to her nationality.

I say go for it mate, im heading out around may/june no set date yet in the hope that I get there a little before the larger wave of back packers turn up. Currently have no set location as to where to start but I will travel up the east coast from where ever I start.
