Can anyone recommend a decent, cheap car hire from Cairns which can be dropped off in Airlie Beach? All the stuff I keep finding has horrific reviews...
Putting some random dates into (a car rental comparison engine for the big name companies), the best I see is an economy-class car from Europcar, with prices ranging from (AUD) $48/day to $60/day, depending on length of time for the hire. (Hertz becomes cheap for longer duration hires as well.)
Those prices seem to be identical to the prices for returning the car to Cairns - e.g. you don't have to pay anything more for it being a one-way hire (as opposed to the rates from Avis, while Thrifty and Budget don't seem to operate in Airlie Beach) - and although I doubt Hertz and Europcar qualify for being anyone's favorite company, they're decent enough.
