im looking to go to Oz next year (around Aug) and really have no idea about how to start preparing for this, i was thinking about doing a 1 week welcome package so i wouldnt be completely thrown in the deep end.
im planning on going by myself - not my ideal senario - and hopefully staying there for up to a year on a working permit.

Im hoping to fly into Cairns then travel down the east coast to sydney.

I am currently applying for my Oz working holiday visa for June next year. I am also going it alone so would be glad for a travel buddy. I will be travelling around SE Asia from Jan-June then going on to Sydney.
Not sure whether I will be finding work in Sydney yet or getting a flight up to Cairns and working my way down the East coast working at the same time.
I haven't looked into the one week welcome package yet but will do. What sort of work are you after there?

i am sure that i will not be going earlier than August other than the fact it will be winter and i think this will be long enough to save money.
i am 95% sure that i will do a 1 week package in sydney after that i havent got any plans - they recommend not to as you dont know who u will meet or where you will want to go.
i want to see as much as possible of the country but realise that is a lot to ask.
i have my map, brochures etc so i will be planning exactly where i want to go this month.
ideally i would like bar work so i can move around freely.

Im in a pretty similar situation. Im going travelling next september for a year. Going to spend a little time in north america first, but then im heading to australia to send the majority of my time. I want to work a bit, and travel around, seeing as much of the country as I can.. and doing as much, and seeing as much as possible.
Im going to sta travel to book my flights etc and im going to get a lot of advice from them. I was thinking about maybe being part of an organised tour in north america, but in australia I pretty much want to do it myself.. seen as I'll be there for so long. If you're there then it'd be cool to chat and maybe we could meet up over there. Im going on my own too and Im a bit worried, but nothings going to stop me going.. Ive wanted to for years now..

that definately sounds like a plan, i will be doing ozintro the first week in august although we probably be getting there a week early to avoid jet lag and explore a bit!!
it would be good to meet people while over there in the same situation, so wouldnt mind meeting. have you decided if your going to a welcome week at all?
do3mm, is it really as daunting as it seems. im most aprehensive about being alone and finding someone who wants to experience the same things as me over there. Did you need to find work - im planning on staying for a year if i like it so will need to support myself just not to sure how easy that is to put into pratice.
Did you travel around the whole of oz or stay in the same area? im also not totally convinced about the hostels are they ok?! sorry if they seem pointless questions - i have never been travelling before let alone by myself!!
