Internal Flights: What's best?

OK,

Hi Jim,

With two months on the Lima to Quito route I wouldn't use any other flight other than the one back from Quito to Lima. Check LAN airline, they probably have good options.

There are no boats from Cuba heading south and I think the best way would be finding flights to Santo Domingo in the Dominican Republic and go overland to Haiti from there. Wouldn't have a clue though what the state of land transport is once over the border with Haiti.
I heard American Airlines will soon be the first one to start flying to Port-au-Prince directly, but I wouldn't hold my breath and I guess it will take much longer before things settle again and there are more flights (from South America for example).

Check the wikipage for the airport in to see what airlines fly from South America. There are more international airports in the Dominican Republic, but most of them are charter flights from North America and Europe.

Have fun, and great job to do some volunteer work I have to say
Michael

hey utrecht,

ok cheers, you often give useful posts on here, thanks man! appreciate in particular the advice about the boats from cuba. do you think its best to book things now, or wait until I go out there and get a plane from there?

jim

Thanks Jim, you are welcome.
Still, regarding to your last question I don't have a good answer really. Because there aren't any lowcost airlines, it's a bit of luck to either buy it now or later and hope for the best prices. Unlike lowcost airliens, prices don't necessarily rise the closer you get to the date you want to fly (in general that is).
So if you are not flying during peak holiday season, you can wait for some deals.
Best thing would be to subscribe to the newsletters (if they have any) of the airlines that fly to Santo Domingo.

Cheers
Michael
