Lowe Alpine backpacks?

Hi all

I don't have that specific Lowe Alpine backpacks but I do own 3 bags from them - a 25L, a 45L and a 60L capacity bag of various styles. I use the 45L bag the most often, for about 7-8 years now, and it's still holding up really well and apart from some surface dirt, nearly as good as new.

Granted, I have not done heavy duty backpacking with them. I use the 45L mainly for week-long or weekend city trips; with the 25L it's usually when I do day hikes with my friends, while the 60L is reminiscent from my first couple of years in college when I travelled "home" to my aunt's nearly every weekend (along with all the laundry since my rental place at that time didn't have a washing machine that I can use). All in all, they meet my purpose and I'm pretty happy with them.

All 3 bags were bought 10 years (60L) and 7-8 years (25L and 45L) ago, so they're all still in use.

I have a couple of their camera bags. Well made (especially the stitching) and reasonably comfortable considering the weight they have to carry - though I'm not going to be chucking it about as much you would be on a backpacking trip. Hope that helps.

Lowe Alpine makes some quality gear. Depending on how much you want to spend a few other good backpack companies are:
Kelty
EMS (It is a good store brand pack)
These are good quality packs that wont break the bank

I completely forgot to reply! Thanks for all your help, ive purchased the backpack now, i suppose the proof of the pudding will be in the eating!!

Only 3 weeks until i go now, eeeek

Thanks again xx

Hello, I would like to share my experience about the poor quality of Lowe Alpine backpacks.
I definitely do NOT recommend backpacks from Lowe Alpine from personal experience I had a backpack from Lowe Alpine and was many years very happy with it. Unfortunately the whole inner coating of the backpack started to wear off after some years and it was not waterproof anymore So I asked the Lowe Alpine customer service for a free replacement of my backback because they offer a warranty for the life of the product against defects in materials (check LA website). BUT they did NOT accept replacing my backpack for free claiming it is natural wear of the backpack and offered a ridiculous 20% discount on a new backpack. I'm sorry but if the backpack inner coating starts to peel off after some years and Lowe Alpine is then claiming this is a natural wear I can't agree. For me it only means poor quality. For me Lowe Alpine didn't respect their 'life of the product' warranty offer and in this way have a poor customer service. I cannot recommend Lowe Alpine backpack to anyone except maybe for Sunday hikers!!!

Are you serious?!

Your backpack worked great for MANY years and finally the inner waterproofing wore out. That's not a "defect in materials," that's normal wear and tear.

Expecting something to be perfect forever and to always be EXACTLY the same as it was when it was new is not only unreasonable, it's silly.

Get over it.

Cheers,
Terry

OP: Absolutely nothing wrong with Lowe Alpine products. They make decent gear at a fair price as do many of their competitors. Have fun.

Yes maybe I'm a perfectionist. But I can tell you the backpack was FAR from how it was when it was new. At the end the coating almost completely peeled off. It's a pity because the backpack is otherwise still in a very good shape. 'Normal wear' or 'defect in material' can always be subject of interpretation. Cheers

I know I am a little late to this discussion, but I have also been quite unsatisfied with Lowe Alpine products. My backpack was purchased a few years ago and I have had everything from zippers and buckles to seams and the lining fall apart. Their warranty policy is highly elusive and you are expected to spend money on international shipping for them to just "take a look" at the product before they neglect to replace or fix it. Never will I buy Lowe again. Period.

Thanks for the heads-up regarding their return policy, Shawn.

Having to send it back to Italy is indeed ridiculous and on that basis alone I would never purchase one of their products.

Terry
