Yes its worth doing a flight. You can often find very cheap flights with Air Asia. You might also want to look into getting a tourist visa from your nearest Thai consulate. They are still running the free tourist visa until early March which gives you 60 days.

Only if you fly in. overland will only get you 14 days. If you apply for the 60 day tourist visa before March 4th, I believe its valid for that 60 days from when you arrive. find your nearest thai embassy and drop them and email, they were really good at responding to me here in NZ
