Worried about travelling alone

Hi guys,

You have nothing to worry about! I'm assuming you're young (anything under 60 is young to this old geezer) and healthy? Thailand is crawling with other young Western tourists who also want to connect. I can give you the name/address of an excellent place to stay in Bangkok - that's so very friendly. I think most people traveling on their own for a first time experience this - even old guys like me! Bangkok was much too "first world" for me - I much prefer the simpler life in Vietnam. You do need to educate yourself about the prevalent tourist scams in the area - no big deal really, just be aware of them, and use common sense. Thailand is a very safe place if you use that common sense. Good luck.

Giselle,
Like Johnny said, Thailand is a pretty safe place for visitors. I would stay where Johnny suggested if you have the money. The Baan Dinso Hostel gets excellent reviews, but is in the 900-1,000 baht range. Many options on/near Khao San Road are much less than that. Most of the young backpack crowd end up on at some point. I am quite sure you will meet other UK females that are heading to the same place you are. You may even change your route to travel with new friends. I stayed on Samui longer than planned because I liked a group of guys I met there. Then I went over to Krabi because that was their next stop. I met a UK girl at and stayed a week longer than planned. This is common when touring Thailand by yourself. You will meet many doing just what your are. Bumping around Thailand, meeting new friends, having fun and looking for adventure. Be open to meeting others, flexible with your plans and you will have an unforgettable holiday.

Now scams. is a place to start on what to be aware of when touring Thailand. Use common sense, keep your female radar working and you should be fine. You might consider to secure your bag. Having your money/bag stolen will certainly ruin your holiday. Keep your valuables out of sight. An is a must.

Send me a PM if you have questions on Thailand. Good luck with your planning.

im usually a pretty shy person and have travelled for 4 months in SE Asia and Europe.
I had no problems at all meeting people... Thailand is probably the easiest, I met heaps of other travellers on their own.
It can be a bit daunting at first but just stick with it, it's only a matter of time before you'll meet someone.
If you're going to Bangkok, stay on Khao San Rd and go to one of the little places that sell buckets. Met loads of people there.

Have a great trip.

You're going to the best place on earth to make friends... you'll leave having made more friends in a month of travel than years in college. Full Moon Parties are safe and yes, people travelling alone do go to them- let me make a recommendation I wish somebody had made to me: travelling by yourself, the best thing you can do is stay in dorms in hostels. They're full of other solo travellers looking for friends just like you will be. On Koh Pha Ngan, where the full moon party is, there's a hostel called the Dancing Elephant, owned by a super friendly french man and always full of friendly travellers. It's an all-dorm hostel, so basically theres a bunch of bunk beds in one room and 16 people pile in there, so you're bound to make at the very least 1 friend that can look out for you at a full moon party.

As far as being conned, don't listen to everything you hear. Nobody will be able to "con" you if you use your good judgement and basic common sense. Don't have too many drinks and don't go anywhere that's not public with anybody you don't know, pretty much a basic rule no matter where you are- at home or abroad. You'll be absolutely safe and you'll have so much fun!

By the way, I'm a young solo female traveler as well, so if you have any questions or worries, please let me know and I'll put you at ease!!

Hey everyone!

Thanks for all your advice! It's really helped assured me and now i'm just really excited to go! I've spoken to so many people already wanting to meet up and travel round the same time so i'm sure there will be hardly any days when i am on my own. I will be booking into Thai intro as well which will hopefully introduce me to a lot more people.

HAHAHAHA I was getting worried and im a guy lol Ive been planning this trip for about 3 years with a group of friends, 7 actually. Im the only one that both the ticket, all my other friends are to afraid to leave the USA bcuz of all that dumb stuff they show on tv and say on the radio Im a very friendly person so Im sure I wont have a problem making friends with anyone, I will be in Thailand in october for an entire month, Im reassuring myself I will have the time of my life
If anyone is going around the same time let me know. Im male 26 from Miami Florida.

Hi guys,

I am going to on my own Thailand for a month in June and i was just wondering how easy it is to meet new people? I'm sure other people have asked the same question but i'm in need of a little reassurance at the moment, as I bought my ticket on spontaneous act due to stressing out about uni work and life after it finishes, that i didn't think about the consequences. And now i have a ticket thats non refundable. At first i was really excited, its just i've just never travelled abroad on my own before and i'm freaking out a little now.

Do many travellers go the full moon parties on they're own? How will i know if some1 is trying to con me?

I would really appreciate any advice or suggestions!

sorry if my answer seems short and sweet and maybe unhelpful but im just on my way out,on my way to football match.

but travelling alone is the best thing i ever done,my only regret is i wish i had summoned up the courage to do it earlier.

and i can be quite a quiet/shy/nervous/anxious person at times yet when im away on my travels i always have fun fun and make many new friends and have 'the time of my life'
