Perth to Darwin October 2010

Hello there,

Hi Amy,

October-November is going to be approaching the wet season in northern Australia, so up towards Karratha it's going to be quite humid and if there's an early wet season you might get rain and road closures. The good news is that there won't be as many tourists in the area and you will get many attractions to yourself.

If you have a 4x4 or a vehicle that can handle some corrugations I'd recommend adjusting your route like this:

- Broome via prison tree to Derby to Windjana Gorge
- Windjana Gorge to Tunnel Creek to Fitzroy Crossing (and Geikie Gorge)
- Fitzroy Crossing to Halls Creek

Some attractions I also recommend dropping in to are:
- Bungle Bungles - VERY COOL but 4x4 required (between Halls Creek and Kununurra)
- Keep River NP - nice sunsets and art (Between Kununurra and Timber Creek)
- Katherine Gorge - nice sunsets, canoe hire (Nitmiluk near Katherine)
- Douglas Hot Springs - good for relaxing, huge camping area (North of Katherine)
- Litchfield NP - nice for swimming, waterfalls (Near Darwin)
- Kakadu great scenery, art and hiking (Near Darwin)

As you can see I've only visited the north section of your trip, you can check out some of my pictures in my gallery. I'd love to do Perth - Darwin but haven't been able to...

Not sure about vehicles, I was travelling in my own 4x4. If you can hire a 4x4 cheaply then I'd recommend that, but hire seems to be very expensive.

If you need any more info feel free to ask!

Have fun, I've envious!

Tim
