Indian festivals, Nov 2010 to Feb 2011

Oliver08 has indicated that this thread is about India

the Pushkar festival in Nov and Thaipsum festival in Feb, are these ones worth a look?

Definitely they are worth your effort of coming to India. You'll be missing 2 more major festivals which fall just outside your itinerary.
1. Diwali - a festival of lights falling on Nov 6th
2. Holi - festival of colors, comes in month of March

Both these festivals are better enjoyed in north India.

[b]Oliver, As told by Nisha, Diwali - Lights Festival is celebrating by whole India on November. Moreover, Pongal (Farmer's festival) is also well celebrated by the State of Tamil Nadu. You should not miss the pongal celebrations and JALLIKATTU.

Great, thanks for those replies guys.
De pending on when I finish Uni I might just have to leave earlier to get to Diwali!.

More replies welcome.

Ollie.

You should try and get there for Diwali, The Pushkar Camel fair or Holi! These 3 are so much fun!

There are loads of festivals between nov-feb with pushkar arguably the biggest and most obvious. for something a bit different I would suggest the international kite flying festival in Ahmedabad which takes place in January (not sure of the date)

also, shekhawati festival 10-11 feb

enjoy india, its awesome!

joey

Diwali is one of the main festival in india which celebrate in all states. This time you can enjoy this festival.
In Maharashtra state "Ganesh festival' is the max 11 days celebration festival. Its so enjoyable but you cant attend this time because it's in September. So try next time.

You have to visit Pushkar Camel fair and be there for Diwali. Also the Commonwealth games are in Delhi this November.

Though not specifically festival, yet the new year party at Goa and the Goa carnival in Feb are really grand. Then there is Hampi Festival in Nov

Bikaner Camel Festival, Mamallapuram Festival, Jaisalmer Desert Festival in Jan

Konark Dance&Music Festival & Taj mahotsav in feb

Thanks for all the help guys.

The itinerary is really filling up!

Keep the responses coming!!!

Ollie.
