i'll be going around europe for 49 weeks, 6 of which will be spent all over italy. my question is, how do i avoid winter? which countries should i go to during jan,feb,march,april,nov,dec?
There is no place in Europe which is truly hot during winter. Your best chances are in Southern Spain (Andalusia), Greek Islands and Sicily, Italy. There you can expect temps between 10 and 20 C in Dec/Jan plus a lot of rain.

Well, Andalusia and Sicily of course. With a bit of luck those places are relatively warm well until November with spring coming very early at the beginning of March.
Turkey (Antalya) and Tunisia can also be nice.
But if you want it truly hot during December and January you have to go to Egypt (Hurgada, Safaga).
BTW, what is your nationality? Are you aware of the Schengen Agreement rules?
I would suggest the Canary Islands. That is where I usually go for some European winter sun.

I don't know about that. I was in Hurgada and Luxor during February- it was not very warm. It was too cold to wear shorts, in fact.

Most miserable in Europe throughout winter?.... Oh - you're spoilt for choice.
Now, before I get pounded into the ground when defining 'Miserable', I'm on about the weather - not the people.
I'll give you a top 10.... Five of each.
1. The UK - it just cannot cope with a cold snap. The roads, airports, docks and airports all come to a near total standstill. For a country that shouts 'Rule Britannia' and 'We are the blah blah' - etc. etc., they struggle like just about no other place in Europe when it gets down to about -4c. for more than 2 or 3 days.
2. Ukraine - great when it comes to hospitality (amongst the very best on the planet), but - boy does it get cold up there in Europe's largest country.
3. Poland - just bitterly cold. But find a bar and the log fire and cheap warmers will have you forgetting the temperature outside in a matter of milli-seconds.
4. Iceland - in a nutshell, it's never warm. Great people though - and as long as you can afford the prices, you'll not find another culture like it anywhere - in any galaxy.
5. Hamburg - amazing city 24/7/365(6), but skin burning when the winter wind is blowing off the sea from the N.E.
So another 5 places that during winter that won't hurt (much easier bit)....
1. Southern Greece.
2. All the Canary Islands (swimming in the sea all year - much the same temperatures as Southern Florida).
3. Malta (but take a little bit of thermals for the evening).
4. Southern Bulgaria.
5. Costa del Sol - Southern Spain. Very cheap flights to Malaga with so many airlines, winter and summer.

If you are a Canadian you cannot travel visa-free around Europe for a year. You need to apply for a D-type , a residency permit for one of the Schengen countries. If you do not have one you are limited to a max. stay of 90 days in a 180 day period inside the Schengen Area.

I agree, Feb/March is the worst month to go to Egypt. But in Nov/Dec up until around Christmas you can usually go for a nice swim in Hurghada. When I was there in Dec it was 28 C and above.

the most i will be in one country is 45 days..... and i still live at home. will i still need one of these visa's? will i be able to get one?
