No? Nothing at all?

Hi there! I'm from the US and am heading to Oz Nov. 8th! I was seriously considering going through OzIntro, but decided not to... I applied for my work and holiday visa on the Australian Government website (www.immi.gov.au) and it took about 4 hours to get approved. I'm just going through visafirst for their 4day Sydney adventure pack, where i'll be picked up from the airport, placed in a hostel for 4 days and they have a few fun things planned including an orientation session that seems helpful. Still planning on going in Sept.? How goes the planning??? Best wishes, Elise

Hihi
What is visafirst? I also heard about Traveller's Contact Point which seems to have the same sort of package ass ozintro but cheaper. I definately think it would be helpful to have some sort of orientation and help finding jobs, and meeting new people of course.
I am still planning on going at the end of Sept. but it really all depends on when I sell my truck

They try to astroturf our forums though (pretending to be travellers and mentioning themselves any chance they get, trying to work up interest), which is one of the most despicable forms of 'advertising' imaginable, and clearly against the travellerspoint terms & conditions. (I'm close to thinking your posts fall under that too, but am erring on the side of caution for now; shouldn't get too paranoid.) I would stay far away from any company using such tactics.

Ahh ok I didn't know that, I had heard only one reference to them so far.

I really wanted a shuttle from the airport to the hostel as well as some sort of orientation upon arrival - less to worry about. For US $220 I get this plus they've planned a day at the beach and a pub crawl (good way to meet people) and they'll send a SIM card. I reckon I can set up a TFN and bank account for myself, so I didn't want to pay for those services. (http://www.visafirst.com/en/adventure_packages.asp#sydney_4_nights). I think they also have other arrival packages, but I'm going with this one... There are also other arrival companies i've found like Australian Backpacker and Woodduck that you may want to look into. I don't know how it'll end up working out, but this makes me feel a little better about traveling to Oz by myself. If you don't have your visa by now, you should probably start thinking about it, just so you can start looking for flights! Once you have your visa and plane ticket, you can tell everyone the dates and it makes it that much more exciting! -Elise

That sound like a pretty good deal, not too expensive, and who doesn't love a pub crawl! lol
I'm getting so excited but I have no idea when I'll actually be able to go! gah so frustrating. I'm hoping I'll be able to sell my truck right away and then it's all down hill from there :D I will probably be leaving before you but sometime along the way we should totally meet up!

Ruby,
How's the planning/truck selling going??? Is your Oz adventure still on for this month? Would love to meet up with some cool people while there- that's what its all about! Nothing new on my end... just counting down the 63 days and working on my packing list! Just wanted to check in on your situation - elise

Hey Elise!
I think I may be selling my truck this week, which is excellent! Because it took longer than I was anticipating I don't think I will be making it to oz by the end of Sept. anymore, not sure though. I don't want to make any plans until I know for sure how much money I have.
