thai islands..where to go..

Heya!

Katarina

You should check out Koh Chang, it is an island in the eastern part of the Gulf of Thailand. It has its fair share of tourists but not as much as lets say Koh Samui or Phuket. I would also maybe recommend Koh Phangan that island is a little more popular to tourists and especially backpackers but there are some very nice, not so crowded, beaches you can visit. Also check out the western part of Thailand I personally have only been to Samui, Chang and Phangan, but I here there are plenty of small not so crowded islands to visit. Check out Koh Lanta for example. I am planing on going there on my next trip to the land of smiles. I hope this helps.

Happy travels

Kat,
There are many islands in the Andaman Sea that are not well known. Probably too quiet for many. Have a look at . Or . & are quiet & cheap, not much nightlife. Good luck with your planning.

Heya!

So were thinking of going to Thailand next April (2011). Basically only got enough time for three weeks. We would like to stay on an island...somewhere cheap, where we can relax and its not infected with a million tourists, but there are still some things to do and somewhere you can have a few drinks at the end of the day. Anyone out there with Thai island experience? I understand what our wants may be a bit too much what with todays backpacking and tourism explosion..but worth a try. So. Anyone?

Thanks in advance,

Katarina (and Michael!)

HEY THERE
we just got back from koh samui. the island itself is very beautiful. it offers a lots of actvities like shopping treeking eco safari and also beachs and natural beauty.we also visited koh tao and koh nan yuang. I think koh nan yuang is the best place I ve ever seen in thailand. but it is very small and there is only one establishment on the island maybe you will get bored if you stay there more than 3-4 days. if ı were you I would stay 5 days in koh samui 3 days in koh tao and 2 days in koh nan yuang.

Ko Samui is ok but I find is not far off becoming like Phuket but it has the best of both worlds in that you can walk around and do a bit of shopping and there are less crowded beaches a little bit further away from the main part if thats what you are looking for.
To the east of Bangkok you have Ko Samet and Ko Chang, in the Gulf you have Ko Pha Ngan and Ko Tao, and in the Andaman you have Phuket and Ko Phi Phi. I loved Phi Phi island it was without a doubt my favourite island I visited in the 4 months i was in Asia. check out this website it has information and advice on what islands to visit depending on the type of holiday experience you are after.

i was in thailand a few months ago and can't wait to go back. april may is low season and there was a bit of political trouble so maybe a little more low key then than is usual. i went to koh samui and then took a boat to koh tao. if i remember right, it cost about $20 each way by boat and was only a few hrs. koh tao is very chill, but enough to do at night and the best place to go if you want to get dive certified and cheap! have fun!!
